“Make Room for Daddy” and “On the Waterfront” takes the Oscar for best picture. Silly putty is invented,
birth control pills are approved by FDA and the USS Nautilus, the first atomic submarine, is commissioned in Groton, CT.
THEN (1972)
Nixon is President and Agnew is Vice President. Eleven Israeli atheletes are killed in the Munich Olympic games, Governor
George Wallace of Alabama is shot and five men are arrested for breaking into the Watergate Complex in Washington, D.C.
Dallas beats Miami in the Super Bowl, MASH premieres on CBS and Atari introduces “Pong”. “All in the Family”
is best comedy on television and “The Godfather” takes the Oscar. Prozac is released, compact discs are developed
and Carole King sweeps the Grammy awards with her album, “Tapestry”.

Bush is President and Cheney is Vice President. The war in Iraq claims more than 3,000 U.S. armed forces lives. A U.S. stamp
costs 41 cents and American Idol is the top-rated television show. Katie Couric is the first female anchor of a nightly newscast
